Last week, Darden’s Institute for Business in Society (IBiS) was part of a team that awarded the second annual P3 Impact Award to TV White Space Partnership in the Danajon Reef. The P3 Impact Award, a partnership between the US State Department, Concordia and Darden’s IBiS, recognizes public-private partnerships (P3s) that are improving our world and society in innovative and impactful ways.

The winner, TV White Space Partnership in the Danajon Reef, is a public-private partnership between Microsoft, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Philippines’ Department of Science and Technology’s Information and Communication Technology Office (DOST-ICTO) and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources. They recently piloted a new technology that taps unused television broadcast frequencies (“TV White Space”) to extend high-speed, wireless access to remote parts of the country.
